The sloppy, rain-delayed, Thursday night NFL season opener drew in a 13.4 overnight rating for NBC, down from the 14.6 rating for the New England Patriots-Kansas City Chiefs matchup in 2017.
The opener between the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons featured a home underdog missing its starting quarterback, and the Super Bowl banner-raising festivities were delayed by more than 30 minutes due to a passing storm.
When the game did kick off, the score was 6-3 by halftime, and finished 18-12 with 26 total penalties called.
Those who stuck around until the end caught a thrilling conclusion in which the Falcons' last-second attempt at a game-winning touchdown went incomplete.
