Tyrod Taylor: I wasn't told the truth about my 2016 benching with Bills
Tyrod Taylor may have found his way out of Buffalo, but the veteran quarterback is still not pleased with how the Bills handled his benching at the end of the 2016 season.
After starting the first 15 games, Taylor was inactive for the final week of the year - officially with an injury. Reports at the time indicated that Buffalo made the move with financial flexibility in mind, as it ensured a potential injury wouldn't lock in contractual guarantees for the following season.
Taylor took issue with the conflicting explanations he received when being informed of the decision.
"I wasn't being told the truth at the time. The GM told me one thing and the head coach told me something else," Taylor told Uninterrupted.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future in Buffalo, Taylor stuck around as the starter when a new regime took over in 2017. The season didn't go by without another controversial benching, however, as coach Sean McDermott started rookie quarterback Nathan Peterman following back-to-back losses in November.
The surprise switch proved disastrous, as Peterman threw five first-half interceptions against the Los Angeles Chargers before giving way to Taylor, who remained the starter for the rest of the year. The veteran led the Bills to their first playoff appearance in 18 years, but that wasn't enough to secure the job long term.
Buffalo traded Taylor to the Cleveland Browns this past offseason and selected his successor, Josh Allen, in the first round of the draft.
