Seahawks activate Earl Thomas for Week 1
Despite ending his holdout just days ago, Seattle Seahawks star safety Earl Thomas has been activated for Week 1 and is expected to slot back into his starting role against the Denver Broncos.
"He was solid all week long. He's fired up and studying and working hard at it, and he had a good week," Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Friday, according to the team's website.
Thomas stayed away from the Seahawks for the majority of the offseason. Upon his return Wednesday, he wrote on Instagram: "The disrespect has been well-noted and will not be forgotten."
The veteran is entering the final year of a four-year, $40-million extension. Aside from an injury-shortened 2016 campaign, he has made the Pro Bowl every year since 2011.
Despite his elite on-field production, however, the Seahawks have been reticent to commit to Thomas long term following an offseason of major upheaval on the defensive side of the ball.
