Report: Pats' McDaniels signed record coordinator deal after spurning Colts

The New England Patriots gave Josh McDaniels a record contract to stay on as offensive coordinator after he backed out of his head-coaching agreement with the Indianapolis Colts, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

McDaniels reportedly inked a five-year contract with New England in the offseason and is now being paid like a first-time head coach. The 42-year-old's annual salary will reportedly exceed $4 million before the contract expires, which is a record number for a coordinator.

McDaniels was announced as the Colts' new head coach on Feb. 6, but broke off the impending marriage hours later.

He was formerly the head coach of the Denver Broncos from 2009-10, and has spent 14 seasons working for the Patriots across two separate stints.
