Report: Chiefs, Seahawks were close to Thomas trade before injury

It appears Earl Thomas' season-ending leg injury isn't just bad news for the Seattle Seahawks.

The Kansas City Chiefs were reportedly in the process of freeing up cap space to make room for Thomas after the Seahawks lowered their asking price, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport added that the trade "likely would have happened" if not for the safety's fractured leg.

Seattle, who's original asking price was reportedly two second-round draft picks, lowered their price to one second-rounder, per Rapoport.

Although the two teams were moving towards a deal, the Seahawks did not consider sitting the star defensive back for their Week 4 battle with the Arizona Cardinals.

After holding out for much of he offseason due to a contract dispute with the Seahawks, Thomas will become a free agent at the conclusion of the 2018 season.
