Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas suffered a lower leg fracture in Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals, according to the team. He was carted off the field in the fourth quarter.
The star defender broke the tibia in the same leg in 2016.
Thomas, who's been mired in a contract dispute with the Seahawks for several months, appeared to give the middle finger to his team's sideline while exiting.
The 29-year-old was playing the 2018 season under the final year of his contract, which has a cap hit of $10.4 million. He held out for much of the preseason, refusing to participate in team activities before returning in early September.
Trade rumors continue to swirl around Thomas, with the Seahawks reportedly demanding a second-round draft pick in return.
A six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, Thomas had recorded three interceptions through the first three games of the season. He made four tackles with one pass defensed before departing Sunday's game.
Thomas is expected to recover in time for free agency, and he could play in Super Bowl LIII if the Seahawks make the playoffs and advance that far, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
