Giants' Shurmur won't make QB change: 'We believe in Eli'

New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur isn't looking to make a change at quarterback.

"We believe in Eli (Manning)," Shurmur told reporters when asked about a possible switch at the position, according to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.

The Giants currently have journeyman Alex Tanney as the No. 2 quarterback, ahead of rookie Kyle Lauletta on the depth chart.

When asked if the rookie could possibly see any starting time, Shurmur doubled down, saying, "We're not talking about a quarterback change yet."

New York (1-5) is coming off a 34-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night, during which Manning threw for 281 yards and one interception. The offense is currently averaging 19.5 points per game, ranking 28th in the NFL.

Shurmur was also asked to revisit the Giants' draft-day decision to select running back Saquon Barkley No. 2 overall instead of a quarterback.

"The idea that Saquon Barkley was a mistake? I don't see the logic in that," Shurmur said, according to Vacchiano. "And I just told you I believe in Eli."
