Gruden doesn't envision Raiders trading Carr

Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden did his best Wednesday to pour cold water on rampant rumors surrounding further roster dismantling.

Gruden said he wouldn't "speculate" on deals being made in advance of next Tuesday's trade deadline, according to Vic Tafur of The Athletic, but added, "I certainly don't see us trading the quarterback (Derek Carr)."

Carr, a fifth-year pro and three-time Pro Bowler, has a career-high 71.7 percent completion rate through six games but has thrown eight interceptions with just seven touchdowns.

Gruden's standing by his quarterback after trading away his No. 1 target in wide receiver Amari Cooper.

"I think Carr is going to be fine. We’ve got a lot of moving pieces now on offense, and it’s tough on a quarterback ... I’m going to keep supporting him," he said, according to Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The Raiders sent Cooper, a two-time Pro Bowler, to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a first-round pick on Monday. They traded star pass-rusher Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears amid a preseason holdout for a package of draft picks.

Coming off a bye after a 1-5 start to the season, there's growing discontent in the Raiders' locker room with players questioning Gruden's "accountability."
