Norman calls Reid's comments toward Jenkins a 'slap in the face'

Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman won't be backing Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid in his feud with Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins.

Reid blasted Jenkins following a heated encounter between the two last Sunday, claiming the veteran capitalized on the movement Colin Kaepernick created and sold out the Players Coalition. Norman doesn't believe that's the case.

"To hear Eric come out and do what he did, it's almost like, wow, that was a slap in the face because Malcolm has been nothing but stand up in the Players Coalition," Norman said Thursday, via NBC's JP Finlay. "Nothing but stand up, and everyone knows that."

Reid and Jenkins were both part of the Players Coalition, a group built to foster social initiatives for underfunded communities and further opportunities for African-Americans. Reid left the group in late 2017 after Jenkins, on the group's behalf, agreed to a partnership with the NFL that would contribute $90 million to groups and causes the coalition endorses.

"(Jenkins) co-opted the movement that was started by Colin to get his organization funded. It's cowardly," Reid said following Sunday's game. "It's systemic oppression which is what I'm protesting and neocolonialism."

Norman noted that the Players Coalition is helping a number of people around the country on a weekly basis.

"We're all trying to go in the direction of helping people," he said. "That is the main objective here. It’s not who gets this award, it’s not a parade here."
