Montgomery: Packers turned on me after costly fumble vs. Rams

Ty Montgomery believes his Packers teammates threw him under the bus for his fumble in the dying minutes of Sunday's game, which cost Green Bay a chance to defeat the Los Angeles Rams.

"We talk about being brothers," Montgomery said Monday, according to Josh Tolentino of The Athletic. "We talk about being family, keeping things in-house, in-house, this, that, and the other. Maybe that's what they do with their family. That's not what I do in mine.”

Montgomery drew the ire of fans, teammates, and even coaches for his costly gaffe, which prevented Aaron Rodgers and Co. from embarking on one last drive to win the game. Los Angeles won 29-27.

An anonymous Packers player ripped Montgomery to NFL Network's Michael Silver for his decision to run the kickoff out of the end zone after the coaching staff had instructed him to take a knee. The player said Montgomery also threw a tantrum on the sideline during the previous possession after being pulled from the game.

Montgomery, however, says he returned the kickoff because it was near the goal line and he was worried about kneeling inside the 1-yard line.

"I've never been a guy to completely disobey what I'm being told," he said.

Even if he hadn't fumbled, Montgomery did waste the Packers' ability to run a play before the two-minute warning by returning the kickoff.

"The worst part about it is now I have to deal with this character stuff," he added. "And it's coming from in-house."
