Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner has been placed in the concussion protocol following Thursday's blowout win over the Carolina Panthers, head coach Mike Tomlin announced postgame, according to NFL.com's Austin Knoblauch.

Conner was taken to the locker room early in the fourth quarter. Trainers also looked at him in the medical tent during the third quarter after the 23-year-old took a big hit, but he was able to return.

The second-year back recorded 65 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries before exiting the game.

Conner will have 10 days to progress through the protocol before Pittsburgh's next game. However, over that time it's possible Le'Veon Bell returns to the team and challenges Conner for the starting running back role.
