The Arizona Cardinals are planning to fire Steve Wilks, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The first-year head coach and former Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator has led the Cardinals to a 3-11 record this season and they share last place in the NFL coming off a 40-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 15.

A source told Schefter he could not envision a scenario in which Wilks is brought back for the 2019 season.

The 49-year-old previously spent time with the then-San Diego Chargers, Chicago Bears, and throughout the college ranks, holding various assistant titles. His only other head gig was at Savannah State from 1997-1998.

If the Cardinals finish the campaign with two more losses, their 3-13 record would match their worst single season since the franchise relocated from St. Louis in 1988.

The Cardinals host the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.
