Report: Bengals' Burfict has 7th concussion, career could be in jeopardy
Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict suffered the seventh concussion of his career in his team's Week 16 loss to the Cleveland Browns, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who adds this latest concussion could put Burfict's career in jeopardy.
It's the linebacker's second concussion in the month of December; he missed the past two games with a head injury sustained in Week 13.
The 28-year-old has played in just seven games this season. He received a four-game suspension to begin the year for violating the NFL's policy against performance-enhancing drugs and missed Weeks 8 and 10 with a hip injury (Cincinnati was on bye during Week 9).
As ESPN's Katherine Terrell notes, the seven concussions only include those injuries that landed Burfict in the NFL's concussion protocol.
A 2012 undrafted free agent, Burfict has started every game he's played in since his second campaign, primarily as Cincinnati's weak-side linebacker. He's accumulated 33 tackles this season while failing to force a turnover.
