The New York Jets are planning to fire head coach Todd Bowles following Sunday's Week 17 matchup with the New England Patriots, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Bowles is wrapping up his fourth season with the Jets, who currently sit at the bottom of the AFC East with a 4-11 record. 2018 will be his third straight losing season after finishing 10-6 in 2015.

Former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy and former Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts boss Jim Caldwell figure to be among the candidates to replace the 55-year-old, according to Rapoport.

New York hired Bowles after successful stints as a defensive coordinator with the Arizona Cardinals.

The Jets have struggled mightily in the latter of his fourth campaign in charge, losing eight of their last nine games.

Bowles' job will be an attractive position once he and the team part ways, with rookie first-round pick Sam Darnold at quarterback.
