Another year, another round of New England Patriots assistants being targeted for head coaching vacancies.

The Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers requested permission to interview Patriots defensive coordinator Brian Flores, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Green Bay also asked to interview New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels for its head coaching vacancy, Schefter added.

The Packers fired Mike McCarthy earlier in December after 13 seasons with the team. He was replaced on an interim basis by Joe Philbin, who is reportedly not seen as a serious contender for the full-time job.

Cleveland parted ways with Hue Jackson in October after a 3-36-1 record during his tenure with the club. He was replaced by Gregg Williams, who compiled five victories in the final eight contests.

Flores received multiple head coaching interviews last offseason while still serving as linebackers coach with New England. McDaniels infamously backed out of the Indianapolis Colts' coaching job last offseason after the team announced his hiring.
