Report: Steelers' Munchak emerges as early favorite for Broncos' HC job
Pittsburgh Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak has emerged as the early favorite for the Denver Broncos' head coaching vacancy, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
The Broncos interviewed Munchak on Friday, and ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that he would have a strong interest in the job, if offered. He reportedly stayed in Denver to await the team's decision. General manager John Elway is set to interview Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio next week.
The Steelers assistant has family in the Denver area, which has made him more open to this head coaching opportunity than others in the past.
Pittsburgh's offensive line has been among the best in the NFL over the last two seasons. The team sent three starters to the Pro Bowl this year.
Munchak's only previous experience as a head coach came with the Tennessee Titans from 2011-2013, where he compiled a 22-26 record.
