McDaniels won't pursue remaining HC jobs: 'The book is closed'
New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels won't pursue any of the available head coaching jobs remaining in the current cycle.
"The book is closed," he said Tuesday, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss. "It's always a humbling experience to have an opportunity. ... I'll be here moving forward."
McDaniels interviewed for the Green Bay Packers' vacancy this offseason, but that job wound up going to former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur. The 42-year-old McDaniels also said he was never contacted by the Cleveland Browns, who have one of the most attractive openings right now, according to the Boston Herald's Karen Guregian.
This is the seventh season of McDaniels' second stint with the Patriots, who will face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday in the divisional round of the playoffs. He was set to become head coach of the Indianapolis Colts after the Super Bowl last year, but then backed out of the agreement to stay with New England.
"I've said before, I think I have one of the best jobs in the world," McDaniels added Tuesday.
McDaniels has interviewed for several head coaching opportunities in recent years, but he's grown picky about the teams he'd be willing to leave the Patriots for.
He went 11-17 with the Denver Broncos in 2009 and '10 - his only previous experience as a head coach - before being fired.
