A Virginia State Police trooper who pulled Adrian Peterson over for speeding in November joked in court Tuesday that she would've let it slide if the Washington Redskins were playing better.

Peterson was cited for reckless driving after being clocked going 78 mph in a 55-mph zone on Nov. 27. The misdemeanor reckless driving charge was reduced to speeding, and Peterson was ordered to pay a $250 fine, according to A.J. Perez of USA TODAY Sports.

"If the Redskins were winning, I wouldn't have written a ticket," trooper K.M. Freeman joked to a bailiff during a recess at Loudoun County General District Court.

Washington had a 6-5 record at the time of the incident. The team finished the season 7-9, missing the playoffs for the third straight year.
