Report: Jets preferred Matt Rhule, had issues with staff choices

Adam Gase is reportedly the new coach of the New York Jets, but it appears he wasn't the team's first option.
Baylor head coach Matt Rhule was New York's preferred choice but talks fell apart due to his desire to build his own coaching staff, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.
Ralph Vacchiano of SNY reports it's not clear if the Jets actually offered the job to Rhule, but confirmed staff issues led to him being eliminated from contention.
Rhule's Bears won just one game in his first season but the 43-year-old cemented his place among the hottest young head coaching candidates by guiding them to a seven-win campaign and a bowl victory in 2018.
