Sean Payton went into hiding immediately after his New Orleans Saints lost the NFC Championship Game.

After falling short of the Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams, Payton spent his time in a self-described "cave."

"I would say honestly after the game for two-to-three days, much like normal people, I sat and probably didn't come out of my room, ate Jeni's ice cream and watched Netflix for three straight days," Payton said Wednesday in his year-end press conference, per ESPN's Mike Triplett.

For Payton and the entire fan base, much of the discontent centers around the blown pass interference call when the Rams' Nickell Robey-Coleman ran into Saints receiver Tommylee Lewis late in the contest.

Now that he's had 10 days to stew on the play, Payton offered some perspective to angry Saints fans.

"It's not gonna happen overnight and it will take a little bit of time, obviously. But it's why we like this game. I mean, football is like life. It's not always gonna be how you planned it, it's not always gonna be fair," he said. "And sometimes you get punched and you get up."
