Report: Seahawks, Wilson haven't discussed new contract

The Seattle Seahawks and Russell Wilson have yet to discuss an extension or potential new deal as the star quarterback heads into the final year of his contract, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Wilson is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2019 slate and carries a $25.2-million cap hit in the final year of his contract. The 30-year-old hasn't engaged in any contract discussions with the club since he signed a four-year, $87.6-million extension in July 2015.

If the two parties begin discussing an extension, Wilson is expected to receive a contract that is worth more than $33.5 million in average annual value, the figure Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers received prior to the 2018 campaign, Schefter reports.

Wilson previously said he's fine speaking about an extension after the 2019 season ends and wants to remain with the Seahawks.

"Oh yeah, if that's what I've got to do," he said, according to Schefter. "It's business and everything. I know essentially after the season, I could potentially be a free agent, that kind of thing. I don't think that way. I see myself being in Seattle. I love Seattle, and it's a special place for me."

Wilson was named to his sixth Pro Bowl this year after completing 65.6 percent of his passes for 3,448 yards and a career-high 35 touchdowns against a career-low seven interceptions.
