Jerry Jones confirmed reports that the Dallas Cowboys won't extend head coach Jason Garrett's contract this offseason, according to Clarence Hill Jr. of the Dallas Star-Telegram.

Garrett will now enter the final year of his deal in 2019, but Jones insisted the two have a good relationship and are still working well together.

"We have been there before without a contract," Jones said at the NFL Honors on Saturday. "He trusts me. I do trust him or he wouldn't be the head coach to begin with. Our business is made too much of when you look at extensions and non extensions."

Jones was referring to the 2014 campaign, when Garrett was in the final season of his original four-year deal. Garrett led the Cowboys to a 12-4 record, and received a five-year, $30-million extension in 2015.

The 52-year-old is the NFL's fifth-longest tenured head coach, accumulating a 77-59 regular-season record across nine campaigns. He led Dallas to its second NFC East crown in three years before being ousted by the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round.

"I don't spend a lot of time on the business of football," Garrett said on Saturday. "I spend time trying to build a team we all can be proud of."
