Report: Gerald McCoy signing 1-year, $8.5M deal with Panthers
Free-agent defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is signing with the Carolina Panthers on a one-year, $8.5-million contract, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
McCoy, who spent the past nine seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was also considering the Baltimore Ravens and the Cleveland Browns as possible destinations.
The 31-year-old was reportedly swayed to join the Panthers after his visit to the club, which included some recruiting help from quarterback Cam Newton, a source told Schefter.
McCoy's deal reportedly includes $4 million guaranteed and - including incentives - could be worth up to $10.25 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The former No. 3 overall pick totaled 28 tackles, 21 quarterback hits, and six sacks in 2018. He currently sits third in total sacks in Buccaneers history with 54.5.
McCoy will now play his former club twice in 2019, with the first matchup taking place in Week 2.
