Suh: Rams 'eliminated' Super Bowl MVP Edelman
Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh says his team did a good job covering Julian Edelman on Sunday despite the New England Patriots wide receiver claiming Super Bowl LIII MVP honors.
"He's an elite player, plays hard, found some holes in our defense in the first half and pretty much the third quarter," Suh said, according to WEEI's Ryan Hannable. "In my opinion, just thinking back, we eliminated him, even though he got yardages. We just have to not allow points to get on the board and give our offense more opportunities to score."
Edelman caught 10 of his 12 targets for 141 yards to lead all pass-catchers. He became just the seventh wideout to be named MVP of the big game, and first since Santonio Holmes accomplished the feat in Super Bowl XLIII.
Despite the Rams' offense putting up just three points on the night, Suh, who finished the game with one solo tackle and a quarterback hit, says the defense should shoulder the blame for the loss.
"It's a cliche saying, but I think it's ultimately true: Defense wins championships," Suh said. "Their defense, in my opinion, outplayed us, held our offense to whatever and we didn't hold their offense to field goals like we talked about, stopping the run game."
