McCourty brothers likely to skip potential White House visit
New England Patriots defensive backs Devin and Jason McCourty will likely skip a visit to the White House if the team is invited for a customary champions' visit, according to Jimmy Golen of the Associated Press.
Devin, who won his third Super Bowl on Sunday, told the Associated Press he would skip the ceremony. Jason said it's doubtful he would join the Patriots on the trip. The president traditionally invites the Super Bowl champions to the White House.
Patriots safety Duron Harmon also said he wouldn't go on the trip and would prefer to meet with former president Barack Obama, as the Golden State Warriors did in January.
President Donald Trump hosted the Patriots in April 2017 and spoke about his admiration for the chemistry between Tom Brady, head coach Bill Belichick, and owner Robert Kraft prior to the Super Bowl.
Trump canceled the Philadelphia Eagles' visit last year, claiming "they disagree with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem."
