Twitter user accuses NFL of stealing 'SpongeBob'-Travis Scott mashup idea
Warning: Video contains coarse language
A Twitter user whose mashup video of "SpongeBob SquarePants" and Travis Scott went viral in September has called out the NFL for not crediting him.
Anthony Trucco, a UC Santa Barbara student, tweeted a video that combined a clip from the "SpongeBob" episode "Band Geeks" with audio from Scott's song "Sicko Mode," drawing responses from the official "SpongeBob" and Nickelodeon Twitter accounts.
A portion of the same "SpongeBob" clip was used to introduce Scott during the Super Bowl LIII halftime show Sunday.
After seeing this, Trucco retweeted his mashup and accused the NFL and CBS of ripping off his idea.
Trucco also released a statement to Trixie Reyna of The Daily Dot, stating, "The video took off faster than I ever expected and before I knew it I was getting hundreds of thousands of likes ... Since its creation, thousands of people have teasingly joked at the possibility of my video being used in Super Bowl LIII this year.
"However, despite these predictions, no one had ever reached out to me on behalf of Nickelodeon, 'SpongeBob,' Travis Scott, CBS, FOX, or the NFL, so I had no reason to believe that this was the case."
