Report: Jets' Gase reluctantly added Gregg Williams' son to staff
Adam Gase didn't want Gregg Williams' son on his staff, but the first-year New York Jets head coach gave in, a source a source familiar with the situation told ESPN's Rich Cimini.
Blake Williams served as a linebackers coach for his father with the Cleveland Browns and has worked below his dad with multiple teams. He reportedly has a history of rubbing people the wrong way. He yelled at a prospect during a pre-draft interview while with the St. Louis Rams and was reprimanded multiple times for sitting in a senior staff member's seat on the team bus, a source told Cimini.
The Jets brought in Gregg on Jan. 15 to operate as Gase's defensive coordinator. Both coaches are known for their headstrong ways, which immediately led observers to question whether they'd be able to co-exist.
Gregg reportedly grew frustrated with Gase's refusal to add his son to the staff. The head coach finally relented and added Blake, 34, as a defensive assistant.
