Coughlin: Bortles is Jaguars' QB 'right now'
When Tom Coughlin was asked about quarterback Blake Bortles during a radio interview on Wednesday, he didn't give a definitive answer regarding the team's situation under center.
"Blake is the quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars right now," the Jacksonville Jaguars' executive vice president of football operations said on Action Sports Jax ESPN690.
During the 2018 season, Bortles threw for 2,718 yards, with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. If he's released, Jacksonville will take on a $16.5-million dead cap hit for 2019.
There's reportedly mutual interest between Eagles quarterback Nick Foles and the Jaguars.
With a quarterback change possibly coming, the Jaguars named John DeFilippo their new offensive coordinator this offseason. He served in the same position for the Minnesota Vikings in 2018 before being fired following reported quarrels with head coach Mike Zimmer about the team's pass-heavy offense.
