Bengals dismiss John Ross trade rumors

Brian Spurlock / USA TODAY Sports

It appears the Cincinnati Bengals haven't placed John Ross on the trading block after all, as director of player personnel Duke Tobin shot down rumors at the NFL combine on Wednesday.

"We have had no internal or external discussions about John Ross," Tobin told reporters, according to WGR 550's Sal Capaccio. "That is right out of the 'ready, aim, shoot' school of journalism. Not sure where that came from. That is not in our plans. You could call that fake news."

Reports surfaced Tuesday that the Bengals were looking to trade the wide receiver two years after drafting him with the No. 9 overall pick.

Ross - the owner of the fastest 40-yard dash in NFL history at 4.22 seconds - didn't catch a single pass in his rookie season and accumulated 210 yards on 21 receptions in 2018.
