Alex Collins facing gun, drug charges

Steve Flynn-USA TODAY Sports

Following an incident on Friday in which Alex Collins crashed his vehicle into a tree and was consequently arrested, the former Baltimore Ravens running back is facing charges of possession of over 10 grams of marijuana, intent to distribute, and possession of a handgun in a vehicle, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley.

Collins was released on bail Saturday morning, Hensley adds.

The running back drove his car into a tree near the team facility in Baltimore, where officers found him asleep in the driver's seat and detected an odor of marijuana, reports Hensley. Police said Collins and the passenger of the vehicle gave conflicting stories about who was responsible for the marijuana.

Police then found two rifles, ammunition, and less than 10 grams of marijuana in the ball carrier's home after Collins indicated while in custody that they may discover additional firearms and marijuana at his residence.

The Ravens released Collins shortly after the arrest.
