Franchise tag roundup: 6 players tendered as deadline passes

Six NFL teams designated a franchise player by the Tuesday afternoon tagging deadline, keeping those veterans off the market ahead of the free-agency period beginning March 13.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were reportedly set to use their tag on left tackle Donovan Smith before coming to terms on a three-year deal.

Clubs have until July 15 to sign their designated players to multi-year contracts or extensions. Any player who signs the franchise tender will play the 2019 season on a fully guaranteed one-year deal for a predetermined salary.

The New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens, and New England Patriots all had strong franchise candidates but chose to let their stars test free agency.
