The Los Angeles Rams have released linebacker Mark Barron, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Barron was the team's starting inside linebacker since being acquired from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014.

The veteran defender began his career at safety after Tampa Bay selected him No. 7 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. He moved to linebacker following his trade to the Rams.

Barron's release will save the team $6.33 million against the salary cap.
