Giants GM defends OBJ trade: 'We do have a plan, and this is a part of it'
The New York Giants' trades of Odell Beckham Jr. and Olivier Vernon to the Cleveland Browns were made official on Wednesday, prompting general manager Dave Gettleman to release a statement on the surprise moves.
Gettleman had a message for Giants fans who may wonder about the team's ability to compete on Sundays.
"You can win while you build a roster. We do have a plan, and this is a part of it," Gettleman said, according to Michael Eisen of Giants.com.
He expressed excitement over the additions of Jabrill Peppers, Kevin Zeitler, and two draft picks. He also wished the two departed fan favorites the best in their new locale.
"The New York Football Giants would like to thank Odell Beckham Jr. for his contributions," Gettleman said. "We truly wish him well in Cleveland, and we want to wish (Vernon) the best and nothing but success for both of them."
