Shazier gets wish of swapping jerseys with Dwyane Wade
Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier was the latest recipient of a Dwyane Wade jersey as the Miami Heat star nears the final game of his NBA career.
Postgame jersey swaps have become a customary part of Wade's farewell tour, so when Shazier reached out to him on Twitter in January, he promised to make it happen.
Shazier was seated courtside for the Heat's loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday and got the opportunity to exchange jerseys with him following the game.
"As an athlete and as a human being, I just told him, 'Thank you for inspiring everyone with his courage to never give up, not give up,'" Wade said of their conversation, according to David Wilson of the Miami Heat. "So obviously I'm appreciative of what he stands for and what he’s done, and it was just a token of my appreciation."
Shazier has not played an NFL game since 2017 after he suffered a spinal injury following a head-on tackle.
