Report: Duke Johnson requests trade from Browns

Cleveland Browns running back Duke Johnson has requested a trade, a league source told Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com.

Johnson has reportedly generated trade interest from the New York Jets, Houston Texans, and Philadelphia Eagles since the Browns signed Kareem Hunt in February.

Hunt and 2018 rookie sensation Nick Chubb are expected to handle most of the Browns' workload in 2019, though Hunt will miss the first eight games of the season due to a suspension.

Johnson has been one of the league's top pass-catchers out of the backfield throughout his four-year career in Cleveland. He rushed for just 201 yards on 40 carries last season but added 47 receptions for 429 yards and three receiving touchdowns.

The 25-year-old was absent Monday as the Browns began voluntary team workouts.

New York and Philadelphia have already made significant moves at running back this offseason; The Jets signed Le'Veon Bell in free agency and the Eagles landed Jordan Howard in a trade with the Chicago Bears. It's unclear if those acquisitions have affected the clubs' interest in Johnson, who is signed through the 2021 campaign.
