The Los Angeles Chargers have exercised the fifth-year option on defensive end Joey Bosa, a source told ESPN's Field Yates.
Bosa was selected No. 3 overall in 2016 and now has two years remaining on his rookie deal. He's set to make $720,000 in base salary this season and $14.36 million in 2020.
A star from the moment he stepped on the field, Bosa has developed into one of the NFL's premier edge rushers. The 23-year-old has accumulated 28.5 sacks and forced five fumbles over three campaigns.
The defensive end missed the first nine games of the 2018 season with a foot injury. He recorded 5.5 sacks in Los Angeles' final six contests.
