Report: Broncos' Harris demands new contract or trade

Denver Broncos cornerback Chris Harris has requested to either be given a new contract or be traded, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Harris wants a deal averaging at least $15 million a year, a source told Mike Klis of 9News. The four-time Pro Bowler is entering a contract year and is set to earn a base salary of $7.8 million in 2019.

The 29-year-old opted to skip the Broncos' voluntary offseason workouts earlier in April as he attempts to force Denver's hand.

Broncos general manager John Elway said Tuesday he hasn't yet had the opportunity to talk to Harris' representatives.

"I don't have time right now," Elway said, according to Klis. "I'm busy with the draft. We'll talk about Chris. He's under contract, so we'll talk about that when the draft is over.

"When I say this, I said we're going to talk about it. It doesn't mean we're going to do it."

Elway added that he hasn't thought about trading Harris.

Harris has been one of the league's best cornerbacks ever since establishing himself as a key member of Denver's defense during its Super Bowl run in 2015.

The Broncos have already spent big at the position this offseason, signing Kareem Jackson and Bryce Callahan to deals averaging $11 million and $7 million annually, respectively.
