Rivers OK playing out final year of contract
Philip Rivers is entering the final year of his contract and has no qualms about playing out his deal if he's unable to land an extension with the Los Angeles Chargers this offseason.
"I'd be fine with that, and look at it again in early spring, if that is in fact how it plays out," Rivers told reporters Monday, including ESPN's Eric D. Williams.
"I really have no goal, or see it playing a certain way. I'm very at peace with where it is right now. I'm under contract for this season and excited about this team and our opportunities."
The 37-year-old is entering his 16th campaign with the Chargers. He led the Bolts to a 12-4 record and a divisional-round appearance in 2018.
Rivers is scheduled to make $11 million in base salary in 2019.
The Chargers signed veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor to be Rivers' backup and drafted his possible successor, Easton Stick, in the fifth round of this year's draft.
Rivers has said he'd like to remain with the team when it moves to its new shared stadium with the Los Angeles Rams in Inglewood, Calif., in 2020.
