Broncos' Lock: Flacco has 'taught me a lot so far'
Despite Denver Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco's lack of interest in being his mentor, Drew Lock insisted the veteran's "been great to me" since being taken in the second round of the draft.
While the rookie didn't want to specifically address Flacco's comment earlier this week that it wasn't his job to help develop the young passer, Lock defended his new teammate to TMZ Sports.
"He's taught me a lot so far," Lock said at Los Angeles International Airport. "He's dealing with winning football games, I'm dealing with trying to learn ... We're in the same quarterback room. He's been great to me."
Flacco was criticized after saying Monday he's "not worried about developing guys" and emphasized it's his responsibility to win games first and foremost.
Both Flacco and Lock are new to coordinator Rich Scangarello's system, and head coach Vic Fangio agreed the former Super Bowl MVP isn't responsible for grooming his potential replacement.
"That's on Drew to soak in and learn. Joe's learning a new system himself," Fangio said, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold. "As we move along, there will be a lot more interaction to get to know each other, but primarily it's on Drew to learn."
Flacco was traded by the Baltimore Ravens in March after he lost his starting job to then-rookie Lamar Jackson. Before the draft, Broncos general manager John Elway said he believes the 34-year-old has years left in the tank.
