Report: Broncos, Harris moving closer to 2019 contract adjustment

The Denver Broncos are progressing toward a contract adjustment for Chris Harris Jr. that would ensure the Pro Bowl cornerback plays the 2019 season in the Mile High City, sources told Mike Klis of 9News.

Harris is entering the final year of his contract, and previously told the Broncos to either give him a new one or trade him. The 29-year-old is currently scheduled to earn $7.8 million in base salary this season.

Harris' agent, Frederick Lyles Jr., and Broncos general manager John Elway have apparently spent the last several days exchanging contract proposals. There is cautious optimism that Harris and the franchise will strike an agreement by the end of this week, Klis reported.

The Broncos are reportedly offering Harris a pay increase, although it's unclear if such an agreement would include an extension or cover only 2019.

Harris, a four-time Pro Bowler, notched 49 tackles and three interceptions in 12 games last year. However, he finished the campaign on injured reserve after fracturing his fibula in Week 13.
