Report: Dolphins looking to trade Reshad Jones
The Miami Dolphins are reportedly eyeing a future without franchise stalwart Reshad Jones.
The Dolphins would like to trade the veteran safety - who's spent his entire nine-year career in Miami - if they receive a satisfactory offer, sources told Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald.
The 31-year-old skipped the team's voluntary offseason program, and the Dolphins' new regime was also apparently unhappy with his refusal to re-enter a November game against the New York Jets last year after learning his snaps would be reduced.
Head coach Brian Flores said he expects Jones to return for the team's mandatory three-day minicamp, which starts Tuesday. The safety is currently working back from shoulder surgery, and he was Miami's only absentee from voluntary workouts.
Jones' contract could make a move difficult. He has three seasons remaining on a five-year, $60-million deal, which he signed in March 2017. He has a $17.2-million cap hit in 2019, and Miami would only save $100,000 by cutting him.
The Dolphins would be willing to pay part of Jones' salary in order to facilitate a trade, according to Jackson. Such a move would save just over $13 million against this year's cap while pushing around $8 million on to the team's 2020 cap sheet as a post-June 1 transaction.
