Goodell doesn't believe 4 preseason games are necessary
Roger Goodell appears to be questioning the value and length of games played ahead of the regular season.
The NFL commissioner said conversations with coaches reinforced his belief that it wasn't necessary to have four preseason games to evaluate players. He also stated the NFL needed to continue with the highest of quality, "and I'm not sure preseason games meet that level right now," according to The Associated Press' John Wawrow.
The league could look to shorten the preseason in the new collective bargaining agreement. Preliminary talks with the players' association have already begun, with the current agreement expiring after the 2020 season.
Goodell also weighed in on the decision made last month to table a proposal that would change overtime rules.
"I don’t know if I’d go for the fair possession," he said.
The commissioner stated he prefers "the sudden-death nature of the current rule."
The new proposal would've seen each team get at least one possession in overtime regardless if a touchdown is scored on the opening drive.
