The San Francisco 49ers have signed veteran left tackle Joe Staley to a two-year extension through the 2021 season, the club announced Wednesday.

Staley, who was scheduled to become a free agent after the 2019 campaign, has spent all 12 years of his career with the 49ers. He and Mike McGlinchey gave San Francisco one of the top tackle tandems in the league last year.

The 34-year-old Staley has six Pro Bowl appearances on his resume, earning his most recent selection at the end of the 2017 season.

Staley, a team captain, was thought to be considering retirement over the past couple of offseasons.
