Watson believes Texans' offense can take next step in 2019

The Houston Texans finished 11th in the NFL in offense last season, averaging 25.1 points per game, and quarterback Deshaun Watson believes that production will improve in 2019.

"Whoever is touching the ball on each possession can make something happen," Watson said, according to the team's website. "We're all confident that we're going to be on the same page, great chemistry, have some fun and try to light up the scoreboard as much as we can."

Though Houston added young pieces to an offensive line that struggled to protect Watson last season, many of the skill-position players on that side of the ball remain the same.

The Texans will hope receivers Will Fuller and Keke Coutee can stay healthy, while Watson believes his control of the unit will go a long way in improving the output.

"I feel like I'm ahead of where I was, of course, last year," the QB said. "Just decision-making, operation of the offense, being able to do things that I couldn't do a year before and definitely my rookie year.

"Being able to take control and take leadership of this offense and be able to get the young guys lined up, make sure the protection is right, make sure the ball is getting placed in the right direction or where the ball needs to be versus this coverage."

One year after finishing 4-12, Houston won the AFC South with an 11-5 record in 2018, but lost to the rival Indianapolis Colts in the wild-card round.
