Trubisky emerges as most popular 2019 NFL MVP bet
While Patrick Mahomes is the odds-on favorite to repeat as the NFL's Most Valuable Player this upcoming season, he's not the most popular pick among bettors.
Jay Kornegay, vice president of race and sports book operations at Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, told Phil Thompson of the Chicago Tribune that they've sold more tickets on Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky to win MVP than any other NFL player. Westgate initially listed Trubisky at 200-1 but moved the line to 50-1.
Trubisky has also been the most popular MVP bet at Caesars Palace. He was listed at 75-1 in mid-June and now "he is 30-1 and is far and away our biggest liability," Jeff Davis, director of trading, told Thompson.
Kornegay noted that Westgate has taken a lot of small wagers of between $20 and $100, likely made by Bears fans.
"I just want to know what kind of water you guys are drinking up there," he said. "Is everybody drinking, like, Soldier Field water or something? What the heck is going on up there?"
Trubisky completed 66.6 percent of his passes for 3,223 yards with 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season.
