Miami Dolphins assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell is taking a leave of absence to address health issues and will instead serve as a consultant to the team.
"I will be stepping back due to some medical complications that require my full attention," Caldwell said in a team statement.
Caldwell was hired by the Dolphins in February. The former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions would have been the senior voice on a coaching staff featuring a first-time head coach (Brian Flores), offensive coordinator (Chad O'Shea), and defensive coordinator (Patrick Graham).
