Running back Melvin Gordon informed the Los Angeles Chargers he won't be reporting to training camp when it begins Wednesday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports, citing a source.

The two-time Pro Bowler threatened to hold out earlier this month in search of a new contract.

Gordon can incur up to $40,000 in fines each day for missing camp, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

In April, the Chargers exercised the fifth-year option in Gordon's contract, worth $5.6 million. The lead back is seeking a much higher payday and the team's preference is to reach an extension with him, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
