Julio sets lofty goal for 2019: 'I might mess around and go' 3K yards
Julio Jones has achieved a lot during his career, and the Atlanta Falcons receiver isn't lowering the bar in 2019.
Jones, who is currently seeking a long-term extension with the Falcons, has record-smashing expectations for the upcoming season.
"Well, I'm not a prediction-type guy, but I might mess around and go three (thousand yards), you know what I’m talking about," Jones said, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's D. Orlando Ledbetter.
"I'm not ever going to lie to you, I’m going crazy this year," he added. "I'm going crazy. I've been doing everything that I need to do. I'm taking care of my body. Physically and mentally, I'll be ready to go."
Jones set franchise records in receptions (136) and yards (1,871) in 2015 and led the league in receiving yards last year with 1,677.
The current NFL record for receiving yards in a single season was set by the Detroit Lions' Calvin Johnson, who had 1,954 in 2012.
Jones reported to training camp despite lacking a new long-term contract, and the six-time Pro Bowler stated the absence of a deal doesn't weigh on him.
"As far as the contract, I don’t go to sleep thinking about it," Jones said. "I don’t wake up thinking about it. I just try to be the best person that I can be today and then when tomorrow comes, I’m going to try and be the best person I can that day."
