Report: Gordon's holdout could stretch into season
Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon is reportedly in danger of missing games as his holdout threatens to carry over into the regular season, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
While the two sides have exchanged proposals in recent days, there is "mounting pessimism" that Gordon won't be reporting to the team anytime soon, added Schefter.
If Gordon isn't available to start the campaign, L.A. will be forced to rely on a committee of Austin Ekeler, Justin Jackson, and Detrez Newsome.
Gordon publically called for either an extension in line with the top running backs or to be traded. The former first-round pick has one year and $5.6 million left on his rookie contract.
The veteran tailback was a no-show for the start of training camp Wednesday; he can incur up to $40,000 in fines each day for missing it.
