Rams extend McVay, GM Les Snead through 2023
The Los Angeles Rams have given extensions to both head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead that will keep the duo under contract through 2023, the team announced Friday.
The Rams' wunderkind coach has been a revelation since being hired in 2017 to replace Jeff Fisher, winning 24 games in his first two seasons and taking the NFC West team to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2001.
Prior to McVay's arrival, the Rams had missed the playoffs in 12 straight seasons while failing to finish above .500 in any of those campaigns.
McVay immediately turned L.A. into an offensive juggernaut and revitalized the career of former No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff. The Rams finished first in points scored in 2017 and second in 2018, while Goff has thrown 60 touchdowns under the coach's watch (the fourth most across that span, per Pro Football Reference).
Meanwhile, Snead has been at the team's helm since 2012 and owns a record of 55-56-1.
The GM has been applauded for his aggressive approach with regards to maximizing the team's window while Goff is still on his rookie contract. He has made blockbuster trades for cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters, receiver Brandin Cooks, and pass-rusher Dante Fowler Jr.
Snead also drafted the Rams' core, including two-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, star running back Todd Gurley, and Goff.
The Rams are set to move into their new $5-billion stadium next season, and they now have the franchise's leaders locked up for the foreseeable future.
